Girls' Generation climbs up music charts in Japan with 3rd single
K-pop queens Girls' Generation has climbed up music charts in Japan with their latest single, according to their agency SM Entertainment on Monday.
Girls' Generation's new single "MR. TAXI/Run Devil Run," which entered the chart at second place on the day of its release in the country on April 27, rose up a spot to No. 1 on Oricon's singles chart, according to chart as of April 29.
The album, produced in three different editions: a regular edition, a limited period edition including a DVD and a deluxe first press edition containing a DVD, photobook and picture cards, also ranked first on Apple iTunes' top songs chart in Japan and entered atop Japan's Recochoku mobile chart.
The group is now preparing for a nationwide tour in Japan where they will hold 10 concerts in six cities starting with Osaka on May 31 and then head off to Tokyo, Saitama, Hiroshima, Nagoya and Fukuoka till July 17.
Girls' Generation, one of the most well-known female idol groups in Asia, made their debut in Korea in 2007 under SM Entertainment with their first album "Into the New World" and has since produced a several hit songs including "Gee," "Genie" and "Oh!"
The group then debuted in Japan in August of last year and have enjoyed much success there as well, becoming the first Korean girl group to place No. 1 on the Oricon chart and wining several gold disc status for their albums which sold over 100,000 copies including their first and second album “Genie” “Gee” and DVD “少女時代到 ~日記念盤~New Beginning of Girls' Generation.”
