KARA becomes million seller in Japan

Korean female idols KARA have sold a total of one million copies of their releases in Japan, according to their Japanese agency Universal Music Japan on Friday.

Universal Music Japan revealed that KARA sold over a total 1,080,000 copies of their albums "Mister," "Jumping," "Girl's Talk," “KARA BEST 2007-2010” and DVD "KARA BEST CLIPS," just eight months after making their singing debut in the country.

Their debut single "Mister" and single album "Jumping" have each sold 130,000 and 110,000 copies, respectively, the girls' first full-length album "Girl's Talk" saw over 430,000 copies sold as well as placing in the prestigious Oricon chart for nine consecutive weeks, while "KARA BEST 2007-2010” and DVD "KARA BEST CLIPS" sold over 200,000 copies each.

The girls are set to release their third Japanese single "JET COASTER LOVE" on April 6 with all the profits from the album and sales to be donated to relief efforts for quake-stricken Japan.

KARA is one of the most successful Korean girl groups to break into the Japanese market, having set numerous records on the prestigious Oricon chart after being named best new artists of the year at the 25th annual Japan Gold Disc Award and placing at No. 1 on the Oricon chart’s listing for the most successful new artists of 2010 and the most promising artist of 2011.

They have halted all activities as a five-member group in Korea however, with members Han Seungyeon, Kang Jiyoung and Nicole having applied for their contract with agency DSP Media to be terminated.
