Famed Korean director Bong Joon-ho has been appointed a juror for the Sundance Film Festival, according to Barunson on Tuesday.

Barunson announced in a press release that Bong will join four other jurors in choosing 30 winning films amongst 58 pictures competing in four categories at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival to be held at Park City of Utah, United States from January 20 to 30.

First established in 1978, the Sundance Film Festival is held every year as a premiere showcase for new works from American and international independent filmmakers. The festival comprises competitive sections for American and international dramatic and documentary films as well as for feature and short films.

Of a total 3,812 entries, 118 films have been chosen to screen at the upcoming fest, representing 29 countries by 40 rookie directors, including 25 in competition. 95 films will be making their world premieres.

Bong's latest pic "Mother," which also stars Hallyu star Won Bin, is about the mother's fight to prove that her mentally challenged son did not commit a murder.
