오바마 노벨평화상 수상 발표문 전문

[아시아경제 이현정 기자]버락 오바마 미국 대통령이 올해 노벨평화상을 수상했다.

노르웨이 노벨위원회는 9일 "오바마 대통령이 국제 외교 강화와 사람간의 협력을 위해 크게 노력한 공로로 노벨상을 수요한다"고 밝혔다.

다음은 발표문 전문.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges." Oslo, October 9, 2009

노르웨이 노벨위원회는 인류 협력과 국제 외교를 강화하기 위해 특별하게 노력한 버락 오바마 미국 대통령에게 2009년 노벨평화상을 수여하기로 결정했다. 위원회는 핵무기 없는 세상을 위한 오바마의 비전과 노력을 중시한다.

오바마는 대통령으로서 국제 정치에 새로운 분위기를 조성했다. 유엔과 국제기구의 역할을 강조하는 다자 외교는 중심 위치를 되찾았다. 대화와 협상은 심지어 가장 힘겨운 국제 분쟁에서도 해결의 수단으로 선호되고 있다. 핵무기 없는 세상에 대한 비전은 군축과 무기통제협상에 큰 자극이 돼왔다. 오바마의 주도로 미국은 지금 세계가 직면한 크나큰 기후 위기에 대처하는데에도 더 건설적인 역할을 하고 있다. 민주주의와 인권도 강화될 것이다.

오바마만큼 전 세계의 관심을 모으고 국민에게 더 나은 미래에 대한 희망을 준 인물도 극히 드물다. 그의 외교는 세계를 이끌어갈 사람들이 세계인 다수가 공유하는 가치와 입장을 기반으로 세계를 이끌어가야 한다는 개념에 근간을 두고 있다.

노르웨이 노벨위원회는 지난 108년 동안 전 세계의 주된 대변자인 오바마가 추구하는 입장과 국제 정책을 고무하려 해왔다. 위원회는 "우리 모두가 전 세계의 도전에 대응하기 위해 각자의 책임을 져야 할 때"라는 오바마의 호소를 지지한다.
