[REVIEW] MBC TV series "My Princess" - Finale episode
We knew from the very start -- that princess Lee Seul (Kim Tae-hee) and heir to conglomerate and diplomat Park Hye-young (Song Seung-heon) would overcome any and every hardship, difficulty and opposition to make their love work out. Even the detail that their happy ending would end with a kissing scene was predictable. Of course, this is not a faulty element for the show's genre as a romantic comedy. The problem lies in the path it took to reach that finale. "My Princess" failed to show that it had made any progress from MBC's royal fantasy series "Goong" from five years ago although it added in the setup that the head of a conglomerate who had bad relations with the royal family in the past tries to offer all of his assets in restoring the royal family to rid himself of his guilt.

Just like the president's empty words of saying, "I will set history straight by focusing the country on restoring the royal family," the setting that Lee Seul was 'the hidden princess of the Joseon Dynasty's royal family' in "Royal Family" had nothing to do with the nation, its history, nor Korea in the 21st century and was merely served as a tool to dress Kim Tae-hee in princess clothes. Of course that too is not a big problem. However, although she was supposed to serve as substitute satisfaction for female viewers by turning from an ordinary college student into a princess one day, she was too cheerful without reason. To add to that, characters like Lee Dan (Kang Ye-sol) who detested Park Hye-young and Lee Seul but had nowhere else to relay their emotions to, made the drama look pretty but an increasingly boring child's doll house play. All that is left of this poorly structured show is a Kim Tae-hee who sang Girls' Generation's song and fit inside a travel bag. Of course, that too could be enough. But MBC's "Pasta" created newness out off a romantic comedy that seemed like a cliche genre and SBS' "Secret Garden" pulled up the effect that it has on the public to the max. Now it is time for a romantic comedy to play another role.
