Girls’ Generation’s first commercial in Japan will go on air at the end of this week, according to the group’s agency SM Entertainment on Tuesday.
A press release from SM explained that the TV commercial the nine-member girl group recently shot for Japanese cough drop “e-ma Nodoame” which will be aired starting February 26.
Local director Shimada who created the commercials for casual wear UNIQLO and a music video for Japanese singer Kaela Kimura, helmed the latest production using analogue stop motion techniques to capture the girls' various poses and expressions.
The commercial also adopted Girls' Generation's hit-song "Gee" from the group's second Japanese single album. "Gee" had claimed No.1 on Japan's Oricon daily singles chart and No.2 on its weekly chart upon its release in October last year.
Girls' Generation, which is one of the most well-known female idol groups in Asia, made their debut in Korea in 2007 under SM Entertainment with their first album "Into the New World" and has since produced a several hit songs including "Gee," "Genie" and "Oh!"
The group who debuted in Japan in August last year also enjoyed much success in the country, becoming the first Korean girl group to place No.1 on the Oricon chart, and wining several gold disc status for selling over 100,000 copies for their first and second album “Genie” “Gee” and their DVD “少女時代到 ~日記念盤~New Beginning of Girls' Generation.”
