Girls' Generation top-selling K-pop album of 2011 on Japan's Tower Records
Korean female idols Girls' Generation has come atop Japan's Tower Records' year-end music chart, according to its official website on Tuesday.
According to the results on Japan's Tower Records chart, Girls' Generation's first full-length Japanese album "GIRLS' GENERATION" placed at No. 1, in terms of album sales, on its 2011 K-pop chart.
The chart, which accounts for all releases before November 30, also showed that the nine-member girl group took fourth place with "The Boys" while their SM Entertainment labelmates Super Junior came in second place with their fifth studio release "Mr. Simple" followed by KARA's record "Girl Talk."
Other notable mentions on the chart included boy bands JYJ, BEAST, Big Bang and FTIsland.
Girls' Generation, composed of members Taeyeon, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Sunny, Jessica, Seohyun, Yoona, Yuri and Sooyoung, have expanded their career into Japan in September last year. They have since released several Japanese singles and held their nationwide Japanese tour.
The girls had their first full-length Japanese album "GIRLS' GENERATION," which went on sale in the country on June, achieve double platinum status and has sold about 850,000 copies to date.

In the meantime, Girls' Generation will be taking part in NHK's 62nd music special "Red & White Song Battle" along with KARA and TVXQ which will take place on December 31.
