Korean horror flick “The Cat” has been pre-sold to three countries at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival.

A press release by the film’s promoter 1STLOOK notified today that the local mystery-horror pic helmed by director Byun Seung-wook and starring actress Park Min-young of the hit historical fusion drama “SungKyunKwan Scandal”, has been pre-sold to Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei at the film market of the 64th Cannes International Film Festival that runs from May 11 to 22.

1STLOOK explained that buyers made up their mind only after seeing a poster for overseas sale and a short clip of the movie, saying the film is 'frightening,' 'charming' and 'refreshing.'

"The Cat" tells the story of college girl So-yeon (played by Park) who starts seeing a mysterious girl after living with a cat whose owner was found dead in an elevator. Already suffering from claustrophobia, So-yeon’s nightmare worsens after seeing the death of her friend Bo-hee who recently got herself a cat as well.

1STLOOK's statement said that the film will take a deeper look into what the cats may witness upon the death of their masters rather than making them look like the devil's pawn themselves.

The film, which is also Park’s big screen debut role, will also star actor Kim Dong-wook from 1997-hit series “The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince,” and is set to premiere in Korea in the summer.
