Super Junior Ryeowook cast as male lead in new musical

Super Junior’s Ryeowook will take on his first role in the musical, announced his agency SM Entertainment.

According to press release by SM, Ryeowook has been cast as a male lead in new jukebox musical “Temptation of Wolves” (translated title) about teenage romance between two boys and a girl to be helmed by PMC Production.

The story, based on a popular internet novel by author Guiyeoni in 2003, became a bigger hit after being made into a film titled “Romance of their Own” the following year starring Lee Chung-ah, Gang Dong-won and Jo Han-sun.

Actor Gang in particular became highly popular with his role in this film as Tae-sung, one of the guys who backs off from love after learning the secret to his birth and his illness, which also won him several rookie of the year awards at the time alongside actress Lee.

Ryeowook will play the role Gang played and the musical will open its curtains at Hyundai Art Hall in COEX Artium in Seoul starting July 12.

Ryeowook, who debuted as a member of a boy band Super Junior in 2008, became well known with his group with hit songs “Sorry Sorry” and “BONAMANA” and also through his active career as a member to Super Junior’s sub units: Super Junior K.R.Y. known as the ballad group and Super Junior-M dedicated to Chinese fans.

He proved his vocal skills through his past participation in various soundtracks and also showed additional talent acting through film “Attack On The Pinup Boys” (2007) where he appeared with all the members of Super Junior.
