Ben Folds to perform in Korea in June

Famed American piano-rock musician Ben Folds is coming to Korea for his first concert, according to the show’s organizer Private Curve on Tuesday.

A press release by Private Curve revealed that Folds, also a singer-songwriter, is set to hold his concert at AX-Korea in Seoul on June 9.

The singer, who began his band activity with friends during his teenage years, came to form his own trio rock group “Ben Folds Five” in 1994.

The group released their first album “Ben Folds Five” in 1995 and second album “Whatever and Ever Amen” in 1997 and started to be recognized within school campuses with hit tracks including “Brick” “Songs from the Dumped” and others.

With continued hits songs such as “Army” and “Underground,” the group also started to gain mania fans in Europe and other regions.

After the band broke up in 2001, Ben Folds set off on a solo career with the album “Rockin’ the Suburbs” and has since worked with other musicians such as John Mayer, Josh Groban and Rufus Wainwright.

His most recent album “Lonely Avenue” released last September was a result of joint collaboration with Nick Hornby the author of the film “High Fidelity” (2000) and “About A Boy” (2002) who wrote the lyrics of Folds' pieces.

The album which included tracks “From Above” and “Belinda” received much acclaim from prestigious media outlets including BBC, CNN and Time magazine, as one of the best albums of the year.

The 44-year-old singer currently appears as one of the judges to NBC’s audition program “The Sing Off” out to select the best a cappella group.
