South Korean movie star Shin Hyun-joon has been accused of assaulting his manager, according to police on Thursday.

"Shin's manager pressed charges against the actor for assault Wednesday," an official at Seoul Gangnam Police Station told Asia Economic Daily over the phone.

The manager claimed that the 40-year-old actor recently hit him on the stairs of a bar in Seoul, explained the official.

Police have yet to confirm the charges and will call in the accuser within the week for additional investigation.

Meanwhile, Shin's agency Frame H said they have not been able to get in touch with both parties since yesterday.

"If there really was assault, there must have been some sort of misunderstanding. We will find out why it happened and try to find a peaceful resolution so that it does cause any more trouble," Frame H explained.

Shin has starred in several television series and scores of hit films, including "The Gingko Bed" and "Marrying the Mafia", since his debut in 1990.
