Hollywood star Richard Gere will visit Korea this month to promote his photo exhibition and experience the country's culture, according to PR firm CDI.


"Richard Gere will be in Korea from June 20 till 25 and during his stay he will promote his exhibition titled 'Pilgrim' which will be held at the Seoul Arts Center starting next week," an official from CDI told 10Asia over the phone on Thursday.

She went onto explain that he will also take part in various programs to experience the Korean culture and visit several Buddhist temples.


"Pilgrim" will feature 64 pictures of Tibet such as its people and community which were taken by Richard Gere and 24 other artists.

The actor has been known to be a practicing Buddhist and an active support of the Dalai Lama. He has also been an activist in protecting the human rights of Tibet and is the co-founder of the Tibet House, creator of the Gere Foundation and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the International Campaign for Tibet.

Richard Gere began acting in the 1970s and rose to stardom as the male lead in film "American Gigolo (1980)." He went onto star in a number of hit movies including "An Officer and a Gentleman," "Pretty Woman," "Primal Fear" and "Chicago" for which he won a Golden Globe Award.
