"Blocking Cyber Threats Targeting the Arctic Sea Route"... Ministry of Science and ICT Begins Strengthening Security for Shipbuilding Partners
Agreement with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and KISA
Building an Industrial Security Ecosystem in Ulsan to Counter Supply Chain Attacks
In response to growing cyber threats stemming from the opening of the Arctic Sea route and the proliferation of smart shipyards, the government has begun strengthening supply chain security in the shipbuilding industry.
On April 21, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it had signed a business agreement at the Ulsan headquarters, together with the Korea Internet & Security Agency and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, to enhance information security capabilities among partner companies in the shipbuilding and port industries.

View original imageThis agreement is a measure prompted by the emergence of "cyber supply chain attacks" targeting partner companies as a major threat amid the accelerating digital transformation of the shipbuilding sector. As smart shipyards and vessel automation systems become more widespread, attacks infiltrating through small and medium-sized partners with relatively weak security infrastructure are increasingly posing risks across the industry as a whole.
Under the agreement, the three organizations will establish a cooperative system for small and medium-sized partner companies in the shipbuilding industry, focusing on raising information security awareness, diagnosing and improving security vulnerabilities, and sharing cyber threat intelligence. Customized support such as security consulting, simulated training, and educational programs will also be provided in parallel to raise the overall security level of partner companies.
This initiative is the first on-site implementation of the "Information Security Industry Development Plan" announced by the government on April 16. Starting with the shipbuilding industry in Ulsan, the government plans to expand this security support model to other regional strategic industries nationwide.
