The convenience store industry will launch discount promotions on shopping basket essentials in line with the distribution of high oil price relief payments on April 27.

Convenience Stores Expand Essential Goods Promotions in Line with High Oil Price Relief Payments

According to industry sources on April 20, GS25, operated by GS Retail, will hold a 25% discount promotion focusing on its value-for-money private brand (PB) lines, 'Hyejaroun' and 'Real Price', from the first day of the high oil price relief payment until May 31.

Based on sales data from last year's livelihood recovery consumption coupon program, 17 daily necessities with high purchase frequency among customers-such as instant rice, seasoned seaweed, tofu, bean sprouts, sausages, toilet paper, milk, eggs, and pork belly-have been selected. In addition, from April 27 to May 15, a 'Super Special Sale' event will be held covering 46 everyday consumables, including ramen, snacks, and ice cream. Starting in May, the discount promotion will be further expanded to include over 2,500 products.

GS25 to Offer 25% Discount on PB Products Starting April 27

CU, operated by BGF Retail, will run an integrated discount event from April 21 to May 31. In addition to its regular monthly promotion of around 2,400 items, CU has added around 50 closely related daily necessities such as ramen, instant rice, alcoholic beverages, snacks, tissues, beverages, fresh meat, and fruits. Bulk discounts and special price items are being emphasized. Imported beer bundles will be offered at up to 56% off, bagged ramen at up to 33% off, and toilet paper and wet wipes at up to 40% off. From April 27, additional promotions will be rolled out for ingredients such as rice, tofu, fruits, sausages, and kimchi.

Seven-Eleven, operated by Korea Seven, will hold a high oil price cost-of-living stabilization event throughout May, covering more than 2,000 products, with a focus on daily necessities. For fresh food, discounts will be offered on a total of 18 items, including eggs, tofu, and bean sprouts, all of which significantly influence table prices. The promotion will cover around 200 beverages, and for alcoholic beverages, beer will be discounted by up to 50%, Makgeolli (12 varieties) and soju (four varieties) will be available at up to 38% off.

CU Also Launches Integrated Discount Event on Instant Rice and Alcoholic Drinks Starting April 21

Additionally, Emart24, a convenience store affiliated with the Shinsegae Group, will offer a 30% discount throughout May on 50 daily necessities such as eggs, ramen, bottled water, and detergent when customers use a promotional card for purchases of 10,000 won or more. To further establish itself as a designated place to use the high oil price relief payments, Emart24 will hold a 30% payback promotion via Naver Pay Point Money on all 109 items of its own label (PL) brand 'Ye!low' and 11 daily necessities including eggs, ramen, bottled water, and detergent, until the end of April.


Meanwhile, the government plans to provide relief payments of at least 100,000 won and up to 600,000 won per person to 70% of the population, aiming to ease the burden of high oil prices and inflation caused by the Middle East conflict. Applications will be accepted from April 27, and the payments can be used from the day after application until August 31.
