'Korea Expo Tokyo 2026' Demonstrates Potential for Expanding K-Lifestyle in Japan
The "Korea Expo Tokyo 2026," co-hosted by ExpoForum Co., Ltd. (CEO Shin Hyun-dae), a leading domestic MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) company, and the Korea International Trade Association (Chairman Yoon Jin-sik), concluded its three-day schedule at the Sunshine City Convention Center in Tokyo on April 18. The event attracted representatives from approximately 600 Japanese distribution companies.
Korean food and beauty companies participated in the exhibition. Nongshim's "Neoguri" and "Kalphabet Hangul Snacks" were featured mainly through tasting events, while "Jeju Samdasoo" and the yogurt ice cream brand "Yoajeong" held business meetings with local distribution partners.
In the beauty sector, "Banobagi" took part, introducing its products and technology. Japanese buyers attending the event commented that "Korean products, with their strong brand stories, are gaining a competitive edge in the Japanese market."
During the event, ExpoForum and Swick (CEO Tyler Rasch), the operator of Kalphabet, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a strategic partnership to link exhibitions and events. The two companies agreed to explore ways to utilize Kalphabet content in exhibitions related to education, F&B, and culture. ExpoForum plans to apply the relevant content to future events and jointly develop interactive programs.
This year, the number of Japanese buyers participating increased to about 600 companies, compared to 305 companies last year. Representatives from distribution companies such as Don Quijote, LOFT, AEON Retail, as well as Itochu and Sumitomo visited the event. Over the three days, more than 800 business matchmaking sessions took place, with the total value of consultations estimated at around 15 million dollars.
On site, discussions took place between Japanese convenience store chains and Nongshim regarding product placement, and Banobagi continued negotiations for entry into Japanese drugstores.
During the event, experiential programs such as the "K-Street Food Market" were held, and actor Yoo Seung-ho attended the opening ceremony to hold a fan meeting.
ExpoForum and the Korea International Trade Association plan to continue hosting the "Korea Expo" in Paris, France, and Los Angeles, United States.
A representative from ExpoForum stated, "This event served as an opportunity to gauge Japanese consumer response to Korean brands," adding, "We plan to continue expanding distribution partnerships in the future."

This event was held at Sunshine City in Tokyo from April 16 to April 18, with participation from 100 Korean companies.
