Iran: "No Plans Yet for Second Ceasefire Talks...Cannot Trust the U.S."
Criticism Over Ceasefire Violations and Shifting Demands
"Uranium Enrichment Restrictions Are Also Unrealistic"
The Iranian government has announced that it has no plans to immediately participate in a second ceasefire negotiation, citing issues such as the United States violating the ceasefire.
According to Iranian local media on April 20 (local time), Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated at a regular briefing, "So far, no plans or decisions have been made regarding the next round of negotiations."
Spokesperson Baghaei criticized the United States, saying, "While the U.S. emphasizes diplomacy and the willingness to negotiate, it does not show any genuine intention to advance the diplomatic process in practice." Regarding the possible extension of the ceasefire deadline, he made it clear that "Iran does not accept deadlines or ultimatums when it comes to safeguarding national interests."
He particularly asserted that the United States violated the ceasefire agreement while also taking military action, emphasizing that in such circumstances, further negotiations are meaningless.
Some details of the negotiations have also been disclosed. When the United States presented a 15-point end-of-war proposal, Iran submitted a revised version with 10 key demands. The proposals from both sides were consolidated into a single "package" through working-level negotiations held in Islamabad. It was reported that these issues were also a major focus during the visit of Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, to Tehran on April 15.
However, spokesperson Baghaei pointed out, "The United States keeps changing its demands and reversing its position," and added, "Contradictory statements made through the media are not helpful to the negotiations." He further stated, "Iran's position remains consistent, and we will not yield to any pressure regarding matters that are unacceptable."
Regarding the key issue of uranium enrichment restrictions, he criticized, "The United States has not learned from past failures and continues to repeat unrealistic positions."

Meanwhile, in connection with the incident involving an Indian merchant vessel being attacked in the Strait of Hormuz and the surrounding Persian Gulf during the ceasefire period, he avoided a direct answer, stating, "We are currently investigating whether the Iranian military was involved."
