Four Major Convenience Store Chains Expand Promotions Focused on Daily Necessities
The convenience store industry is launching shopping basket item discount promotions in line with the distribution of high oil price relief funds on April 27.
According to industry sources on April 20, GS25, operated by GS Retail, will hold a 25% discount event focused on its cost-effective private brands, “Hyejaroun” and “Real Price,” from the first day of the high oil price relief fund distribution until May 31.

View original imageBased on last year’s sales data during the livelihood recovery consumption coupon program, GS25 has selected 17 essential household items with high customer purchase frequency, including instant rice, seasoned seaweed, tofu, bean sprouts, sausages, toilet paper, milk, eggs, and pork belly. In addition, from April 27 to May 15, a “Super Special Sale” will be held on 46 everyday consumer goods such as ramen, snacks, and ice cream. Starting in May, the value discount event will be expanded to more than 2,500 products.
CU, operated by BGF Retail, will conduct an integrated discount event from April 21 to May 31. In addition to approximately 2,400 products included in the monthly integrated promotion, around 50 items closely related to daily life—such as ramen, instant rice, alcoholic beverages, snacks, tissues, drinks, fresh meat, and fruit—have been added. The event will heavily feature large volume bundle discounts and ultra-low priced products. Imported beer bundle products will be discounted by up to 56%, bagged ramen by up to 33%, and items such as toilet paper and wet wipes by up to 40%. Additional promotions for food ingredients such as rice, tofu, fruit, sausages, and kimchi will also be rolled out starting April 27.

View original image7-Eleven, operated by Korea Seven, will hold a high oil price cost-of-living stabilization event on approximately 2,000 products, starting with daily necessities, throughout the month of May. For fresh food, discounts will be offered on 18 products—including eggs, tofu, and bean sprouts—which have a significant impact on household grocery costs. The promotion also covers around 200 beverage products, and for alcoholic beverages, beer will be discounted by up to 50%, while 12 types of Makgeolli and 4 types of soju will be available at discounts of up to 38%.
Additionally, Emart24, a Shinsegae Group convenience store, will offer a 30% discount on 50 daily necessities—including eggs, ramen, bottled water, and detergent—when paying 10,000 won or more with an event card throughout May. To further establish itself as a designated outlet for the high oil price relief fund, until the end of April, Emart24 will also provide a 30% payback event for all 109 products under its own label (PL) brand “Ye!low” and for 11 daily necessities—including eggs, ramen, bottled water, and detergent—when payment is made via Naver Pay point money.

Meanwhile, the government plans to alleviate the public’s burden from high oil prices and inflation caused by the Middle East conflict by providing relief funds of at least 100,000 won and up to 600,000 won per person to 70% of the population. Applications will be accepted from April 27, and the funds can be used from the day after application until August 31.
