12 Young Choreographers to Present Four-Day Relay Performances... Young Choreographers Creative Performance Opens in May
At Daehakro Arts Theater Small Hall from May 3
The 2026 Young Choreographers Creative Performance, offering a glimpse into the future of the Korean dance scene, will be held at the Daehakro Arts Theater Small Hall from May 3 to May 10.
Audiences will have the opportunity to experience the experimental spirit and contemporary sensibility of the next generation of choreographers through four performances scheduled for May 3, 6, 8, and 10. This event is hosted by the Korea Dance Association and organized by the Young Choreographers Creative Performance Organizing Committee.
The final 12 participants were selected through an audition held at Hansung University Dance Studio on January 8. Over approximately three months, they have refined and developed their works, and each day, three choreographers will present pieces showcasing their unique personalities and styles.
The top choreographer will be awarded the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award. The winner will also have the opportunity to present their work at the 47th Seoul Dance Festival "Passion Dance Party."
The Young Choreographers Creative Performance Organizing Committee is enhancing the quality of the works and the professionalism of the event's operation through collaboration with domestic dance experts. Notably, last year, the Artistic Director of the Seattle International Dance Festival participated as a judge, directly evaluating and advising Korea's young choreographers. As a result, choreographer Choi Minwook's work "Salvation," winner of the 2025 top choreographer award, and choreographer Kim Jaekwon's work "Thought Controllers," winner of the Jury President's Award, have been invited to the 2026 Seattle International Dance Festival.
The organizing committee announced plans to further expand exchanges with overseas institutions and experts, strengthening the foundation for Korean choreographers to connect with the global stage and actively supporting their international advancement.
