Artifacts Meet the Stage: National Museum Culture Foundation Presents Generation-Tailored Performances

The National Museum Culture Foundation announced on April 17 that it will hold a generation-tailored 'Culture and Arts Sharing' performance in June at the National Museum of Korea Theater Yong. This performance is a convergence program designed to make museum artifacts more accessible and engaging. By combining music, commentary, and lectures on the humanities, the focus is on reinterpreting artifacts from a contemporary perspective. The performance for the younger generation, titled 'Museum Moment,' will take place on June 10 and 11. Using 'dark history' as a keyword, it follows the hidden stories and journeys embedded in artifacts, transforming moments of failure and trial into narratives of growth. By highlighting examples of artifacts that became treasures after overcoming looting and damage, the program aims to deliver messages of consolation and empathy to young people. The event will feature explanations from cultural heritage commentator An Ji-Young and conductor Kim Hee-Jun, a

[On Stage] Relationships Bloom from Abandonment in "Orphans"

[On Stage] Relationships Bloom from Abandonment in "Orphans"

The United States is a country with an especially large number of narratives involving orphans. Analysts suggest this is rooted in the nation’s origins as a country built by immigrants rather than inherited from ancestors, and in the pioneering spirit of creating something out of nothing. Iconic American heroes such as Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man are typically depicted as individuals who overcome adversity without parents. True to its title, the play "Orphans" deals with the story of orphans. There are three characters: the brothers Treat and Phillip, and Harold, a middle-aged man who is kidnapped and brought to their home. Treat is a pickpocket. He steals to support Phillip. Phillip is under his older brother Treat’s extreme protection. He never leaves the house, sincerely believing his brother’s warning that the outside air could trigger a deadly allergy. The brothers, lacking parents and therefore unsocialized, behave in a pure but unrestrained way; their exaggerated actions an

Conductor Myung-Whun Chung, Chosen by La Scala, to Lead Opera "Carmen"

The KBS Symphony Orchestra will present a concert version of Georges Bizet's masterpiece opera "Carmen" at its 825th regular concert, to be held at Lotte Concert Hall on April 17 and 18. Myung-Whun Chung, Music Director of the KBS Symphony Orchestra, will take the podium, joined by a lineup of world-class vocalists. Although this is a concert performance, it is drawing particular attention as it marks Myung-Whun Chung's first opera production with the KBS Symphony Orchestra in 29 years. In 1997, at the orchestra's 482nd regular concert, Music Director Chung made headlines by presenting Verdi's "Otello" in concert format for the first time in Korea. Maestro Chung is especially recognized as one of the world's leading opera conductors. This is further evidenced by his upcoming appointment as Music Director of Italy's Teatro alla Scala, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. Chung is set to take over as Music Director of La Scala from Riccardo Chailly starting in 2027. Fou
