Following the signing ceremony, a student preview of a disability awareness drama was held for students at Sehwa Girls’ Middle School. Since 2008, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, together with the Ministry of Education and the Disabled First Practice Movement Headquarters, has been producing and distributing disability awareness dramas for youth. These contents are used each year around April 20, ‘Day of Persons with Disabilities,’ as educational materials for disability awareness improvement at middle and high schools across the nation.
This program has established itself as a leading educational initiative in which approximately 28 million students at around 70,000 schools nationwide have participated to date. In addition to screening the dramas, participatory programs such as essay contests for elementary, middle, and high school students are also held to enhance educational effectiveness. Based on these achievements, the program was selected as an exemplary case in the 2011 UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities report and received a commendation from the Ministry of Education in 2012, earning external recognition for its success.
Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance plans to strengthen arts education and career support programs so that the talents and potential of young people with disabilities can lead to actual career paths and social participation. Through these efforts, the company aims to go beyond simply raising awareness, creating a foundation for young people with disabilities to design their own futures and develop their capabilities. Munhwa Lee, President of Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, stated, “Now is the time not only to understand disabilities but also to create opportunities for young people with disabilities to grow as confident members of our society. We will actively support talented youth so they can turn their potential into reality.”
