Chilroen is an AI-based music tech company founded in 2021. Leveraging generative AI, it not only produces music tracks directly but also offers services that help users find music suitable for different moods. Currently, the company is focusing on LinkMusic, its AI-powered music search platform, as its main service.
CEO Cho has an unusual background as a graduate of a music college. After majoring in film scoring at Berklee College of Music, a prestigious music school in the United States, he worked as a music producer. He has done arrangement work for well-known artists such as IU and Jeong Seunghwan, and to date has composed approximately 30 songs, including original soundtracks (OSTs) for television dramas. Not only CEO Cho, but also most of Chilroen’s core executives and staff are current music producers or talents with music college backgrounds.

View original imageThe reason this musician founded Chilroen was his prediction that the potential uses for music would greatly expand in the era of AI. CEO Cho explained, "When I founded the company in 2021, there was a metaverse boom, and I saw the possibility that background music could be applied in various ways, not only to videos and games but also across the IT sector."
Since launching its full-fledged service in December last year, LinkMusic has distinguished itself by allowing users to easily find suitable background music (BGM) simply by describing what they want. On LinkMusic, users can search with abstract prompts, such as "a bright song reminiscent of a couple dating on a cherry blossom path in spring," and still get relevant results.
It also supports multimodal input, so if users upload an image, the platform recommends background music that matches it. For example, if you upload a scene from a video as an image, LinkMusic will suggest music that fits. Entering both images and text together is also supported. Chilroen’s multimodal AI technology, combined with open-source large language models (LLMs), is used to find the right music.

CEO Cho said, "On Deezer, an overseas music platform, more than 50,000 AI-composed tracks are uploaded every day," adding, "We no longer live in an era where music is scarce; now, the focus is on finding the music you want among the abundance of available tracks."
Currently, LinkMusic is offered through LinkMusic IO for general users and LinkMusic API for businesses. LinkMusic IO is accessible via the website, while LinkMusic API allows companies to integrate LinkMusic within their own services. All music found through LinkMusic is composed in-house by Chilroen using AI, so it can be used in videos immediately without copyright concerns.

Chilroen is also preparing to launch "LinkMusic Space," a service where AI curates background music tailored to the type and atmosphere of each store and automates announcements as well. The company is currently conducting a proof-of-concept (PoC) with a major retail company. CEO Cho said, "LinkMusic Space attracted interest from global companies at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in February," adding, "For now, we will focus on perfecting LinkMusic Space."
