On the same day, four days before the April 10 general election, Lee made the remarks during a campaign rally supporting candidate Park Seong-jun in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, saying, "Why is it not allowed to bring green onions to the polling station? Are they saying that bringing green onions is some kind of terrorism?"
The Central Election Commission previously judged that political acts protesting a specific party or candidate could psychologically influence other voters and violate the principle of secret voting, so bringing green onions into polling stations should be restricted under the Public Official Election Act.
Lee emphasized, "Why are they suppressing the freedom and human rights of the people like this?" and added, "Economic development is possible in a transparent, rational, and predictable society."
He continued, "The government says it has cut tens of trillions of won in taxes, but has even one person benefited from tax reductions?" and criticized, "They fill their own pockets with the power we entrusted and the taxes we paid."
Lee said, "Now we must hold them accountable and stop them," adding, "The ones who can stop this government's regression and backsliding are not the Democratic Party or Lee Jae-myung, but the people themselves."
He also stated, "As sovereigns, you must send a strong warning to those who use the power and budget entrusted by the owners to oppress and cause suffering to the owners."
Lee said, "Those who have failed in state affairs, who deserve to be warned, have finally started crying tears and putting on a 'kowtow show,'" warning, "We must not be deceived by their tears."
