View original imageThis initiative is designed to allow foreign exchange students to directly participate in popular daily life and cultural spaces, such as night markets and local festivals, where they can naturally interact with citizens and experience the diverse regional culture of Chuncheon.
Now in its second year, this program involves more than 20 foreign exchange students from Kangwon National University, Hallym University, and Songgok University. Since April 10, the participating students have been active every Friday and Saturday at the Chunpung Night Market, which is part of the Pungmul Market, and will continue through October. Through activities such as running experience programs, supporting public facility management, and operating language exchange booths, they will have the opportunity to directly experience Korean traditional market culture and communicate with local residents.
In addition, the students will participate in about 20 major local events throughout the year, including the Sul Festa (Liquor Festival), University Union Festival, Chuncheon Coffee Festival, and Makguksu Dakgalbi Festival, where they will support guidance and interpretation as well as operate global cultural experience programs and engage in a variety of exchange activities. The schedule and programs may be adjusted depending on operational circumstances.
Before launching the project, Chuncheon City established a cooperative system with local universities and the Pungmul Market Merchants' Association. The city is also working closely with the Chuncheon Immigration and Foreigners Office to ensure that related administrative procedures, such as obtaining permission for student activities outside their visa status, proceed smoothly.
