The 'BMW BEV Membership,' an electric vehicle test drive membership program operated by BMW Korea, has surpassed a cumulative total of 5,000 participating customers just one year after its launch.
According to BMW Korea on May 7, this program offers owners of internal combustion engine vehicles the opportunity to experience pure electric vehicles, thereby helping to improve perceptions of electric cars.
The BMW BEV Membership mobilizes a total of around 230 electric vehicles to provide new car buyers with the chance to experience driving them. The program was first introduced in May last year with key models such as the i5 and i4, and recently expanded its lineup to include flagship models like the iX and i7, now offering a total of six models. Service locations have also been significantly expanded, growing from 14 at launch to 24 nationwide, improving accessibility for customers.
The program’s first-year results are impressive. The cumulative number of participating customers reached 5,046, and customer satisfaction scored 4.6 out of 5 points. Notably, in a user survey, 87% of respondents said their perception of electric vehicles became more positive after the test drive. Additionally, 80% of those who participated in the test drive were owners of internal combustion engine vehicles, indicating that the program successfully attracted customers with little prior experience with electric vehicles.
This expansion of test drive opportunities has also translated into stronger sales. In the first quarter of this year, BMW Korea sold a total of 2,913 electrified models, securing the top spot in the domestic premium imported car market. Of these, pure electric vehicle sales reached 1,732 units, representing a 49.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
