Korea Railroad Research Institute and Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation Launch Joint Research on Railway Infrastructure Safety
Collaboration to Address Climate Change and Aging Infrastructure
Advancing AI-Based Maintenance Technologies
The Korea Railroad Research Institute and the Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation are joining forces for collaborative research aimed at enhancing railway facility safety and advancing maintenance technologies.
On May 7, the Korea Railroad Research Institute announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation to promote safety and technological development in railway facilities.
The two institutions have agreed to establish a cooperative framework and conduct joint research to strengthen safety at railway construction sites. They will also collaborate on advancing the standards and technologies for safety and maintenance of railway facilities in response to climate change and aging infrastructure. In addition, they will work together to improve detailed guidelines for railway infrastructure performance evaluation and safety inspections.
With the recent expansion of railway systems such as high-speed rail and urban railways, the need for effective management of aging railway facilities and smart maintenance is increasing. In response, the Korea Railroad Research Institute plans to strengthen its cooperation with the Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation, a leading institution in national infrastructure safety management, to expand the impact of its railway infrastructure safety research.
In particular, the Korea Railroad Research Institute aims to create synergy by linking its ongoing work in “core technologies for safety improvement and disaster response” and “AI- and digital-based design and maintenance efficiency technologies” with the Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation’s capabilities in facility safety and underground safety management.
