Park Junhee Confirmed as Democratic Party Candidate for Gwanak District Mayor

Park Junhee, the incumbent district mayor, has been confirmed as the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Gwanak District Mayor in the June 3 local elections.

View original imageThe Democratic Party's Seoul Metropolitan Chapter Election Management Committee announced on the evening of April 20 that Park was confirmed as the main candidate following the primary. In a candidate suitability poll conducted over two days, April 19 and 20, with a 50:50 weighting between party members and general residents, Park received overwhelming support, surpassing his competitors. Yoo Jeonghee, Shin Eongeun, and Kim Heechul also participated in the primary.
Park is a two-term district mayor who has led Gwanak District through the 7th and 8th popularly elected administrations. With this nomination, he will be running for a third term.
Park stated, "I sincerely thank the party members and residents for once again entrusting me with this responsibility for greater development and a better future for Gwanak. I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to Yoo Jeonghee, Shin Eongeun, Kim Heechul, and their supporters for participating in the primary." He added, "The primary is over, and from now on, we are one team. By uniting the strength of the Democratic Party, I will not only secure victory in the main election but also ensure continued progress in Gwanak and tangible changes that residents can feel."
Park has presented "Together, the Best Gwanak District" as his vision for the district administration, proposing innovative economy, youth-friendly policies, and healing gardens as the three core strategies. He plans to introduce field-oriented pledges encompassing livelihoods, welfare, education, recreational sports, urban infrastructure, and youth policies.

Park emphasized, "This nomination is not a personal victory, but a mandate from party members and residents to open up an even greater future for Gwanak. With an even greater sense of responsibility, I will ensure victory in the main election."
