"Strong Cattle Gather!" ... Changwon to Host 24th National Folk Cattle Wrestling Competition Starting April 29

Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province will host the 24th Changwon National Folk Cattle Wrestling Competition at a special venue in the Magumsan Hot Springs District, Buk-myeon, Uichang-gu, from April 29 to May 3.

This event, organized and hosted by Changwon City and the Changwon City Branch of the Korea Folk Cattle Wrestling Association, will feature 200 cattle from nine cities and counties nationwide, including 20 cattle from the Changwon area. The competition will be divided into three weight classes—Baekdu, Hangang, and Taebaek—based on cattle weight, and matches will be conducted in a tournament format. The total prize money amounts to 55.2 million won.
In particular, under the revised competition regulations of the Korea Folk Cattle Wrestling Association, the event will strictly manage participating cattle according to stringent animal welfare standards, including strengthened criteria for horn management, a maximum match time of 40 minutes, and the constant presence of supervisors.
The opening ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on May 2, featuring celebratory performances such as a Nanta drum show, as well as a variety of prizes including electronics and agricultural and specialty products from Changwon City. Additionally, there will be milk tasting events and mobile livestock product sales vehicles, offering visitors and citizens a rich array of attractions and activities to enjoy together as part of the festival.
