Police: "Always Check the Tides"
A woman in her 60s was safely rescued after being stranded by the rising tide while she was sleeping on rocks near the tidal flats close to Daebudo Island in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province.
According to Yonhap News Agency on April 20, the Pyeongtaek Coast Guard received a report at around 5:27 p.m. the previous day that a person was stranded on rocks near Bangameori Beach on Daebudo Island.
Responding to the report, the Coast Guard approached the rocks using an unpowered rescue board and safely transported a Chinese woman in her 60s, identified as Ms. A, to the beach. It was reported that Ms. A had fallen asleep while looking at the sea alone on the rocks, and became stranded as the tide came in. At the time of rescue, Ms. A was in good health except for having lost some personal belongings.
Earlier on the same day, at around 1 a.m., a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. B, fell into the mudflats after losing his footing while intoxicated at Malbuhung Dock in Ansan. Mr. B was rescued unharmed in a joint operation by the Coast Guard, police, and firefighters, and it was reported that he sustained no injuries.

The police emphasized the need to follow safety guidelines, such as checking the tides when visiting the coast. Jung Sehee, Head of Marine Safety at the Pyeongtaek Coast Guard, said, "The coastline and rocks can become isolated in an instant due to tidal differences, so it is essential to check the tides. After drinking, your sense of balance decreases, which greatly increases the risk of falling accidents, so please refrain from walking along the coast after consuming alcohol."
