Police Investigation Network Targets Daegu Election Scene
Investigating 20 Cases and 26 Individuals Related to Local Elections
Zero Tolerance for Election Offenses
As the 9th nationwide local elections approach, the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency is accelerating its investigations into election-related illegal activities. As of April 20, the agency announced that it is currently investigating 20 cases involving 26 individuals in connection with the local elections.
The police have decided not to disclose statistics by type for the ongoing investigations. This decision aims to prevent unnecessary misunderstandings, such as allegations of bias, during the investigative process. It also reflects the agency's commitment to maintaining a strict and neutral stance when handling cases.
In particular, the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency has made it clear that it will apply a zero-tolerance policy to major illegal acts that undermine the fairness of the election, responding with heightened rigor. The agency has also expressed its determination to thoroughly investigate serious election offenses, such as election-related violence, in accordance with the law and principles, in order to uphold electoral integrity.
An official from the police stated, "It is difficult to provide statistics by investigation type," and added, "We also cannot confirm specific details about the individual cases currently under investigation."
