66th Anniversary of the April 19 Revolution... Vows for "Citizen-Centered Anseong"
From the Shouts of 1919 to the Revolution of 1960
Posts Message: "Inheriting the Spirit of Youth and Citizens Who Stood Against Injustice"
Bora Kim, Mayor of Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, expressed her strong commitment to honoring the noble sacrifices of the forebears and to embedding the values of democracy into Anseong’s municipal policies, through her personal social media account, in commemoration of the 66th anniversary of the April 19 Revolution.
In her post on this day, Mayor Kim reflected on Korea's modern history, stating, "The spring of the Republic of Korea is stained with the tears of its citizens, making it all the more poignant, but those painful times have collectively paved the way for today’s democracy." She traced the historical thread from the March 1 Movement in 1919, through the April 19 Revolution in 1960, to the May 18 Democratic Uprising in 1980.
Mayor Kim particularly emphasized, "Just as the torch of 1960 toppled dictatorship and sowed the seeds of democracy, that spirit has become the foundation of the freedoms we enjoy today." She added, "Anseong, as a city of active resistance that achieved 'two days of liberation' during the March 1 Movement, is inheriting this passionate sense of justice."
She continued, "Democracy is not a completed outcome but a process we must continually nurture," and pledged, "Alongside the citizens of Anseong, I will uphold and practice the values for which people fought against dictatorship in our daily lives, and protect a more resilient democracy."
Mayor Kim concluded, "On the 66th anniversary of the April 19 Revolution, I once again bow my head before the spirits of those who fought for democracy," vowing, "I will strive to realize in Anseong the 'just nation and a world where citizens are the true owners' that they dreamed of."
