View original imageAssemblyman Seongon Wi of the Democratic Party of Korea has been nominated as the party’s candidate for Governor of Jeju Province in the June 3 local elections.
On April 18, Central Party Election Commission Chairman Byeonghun So announced the results of the primary for the Jeju gubernatorial candidate at the party headquarters in Yeouido.
Candidate Wi was chosen as the final nominee after defeating Assemblyman Daerim Moon in the runoff vote held from April 16 to April 18. Wi will compete against Seongyu Moon, the People Power Party candidate and former CEO of Korea Asset Management Corporation.

Candidate Wi is a graduate of Seogwipo High School and Jeju National University. Since the 19th general election, he has been elected three consecutive times as the representative for Seogwipo, Jeju. With the nomination for the Jeju governorship, the Democratic Party of Korea has completed the selection of candidates for the heads of all 16 metropolitan governments.
