Incident Occurred in Mixed-Gender Guesthouse Room
As a post by a Chinese tourist claiming to have been sexually harassed by a Japanese man in Busan is rapidly spreading on Chinese online platforms, the police have launched an investigation.
According to Yonhap News Agency and the Busanjin Police Station on April 18, a post was uploaded the previous day on China's social networking service Weibo by a Chinese woman, referred to as Ms. A, claiming that she had been sexually harassed in Korea.
In her post, Ms. A alleged that while staying at a guesthouse in Busan recently, she was harassed and insulted by a Japanese man, referred to as Mr. B. She stated, "I woke up to loud noises and saw Mr. B at the head of my bed touching part of my body. When I shone a flashlight, I discovered that he had urinated on my body, bed, and luggage," describing the situation at the time.
It was reported that the room Ms. A stayed in was a mixed-gender dormitory for six people. Ms. A also raised concerns that the police did not formally register her complaint and instead encouraged her to reconcile with the other party.
The post has surpassed 30 million views and is spreading rapidly online. This was reportedly Ms. A’s first visit to Korea.
The police have received the report and are conducting an investigation. At around 5 a.m. on April 15, it was confirmed that Mr. B, a Japanese national, had urinated on another guest's bed and belongings in a guesthouse room in Busanjin District, Busan. The police are investigating the facts in detail, including whether Mr. B’s actions constitute a sex crime.

The police have requested Mr. B, who has already left Korea, to appear for questioning, and Mr. B has reportedly expressed his intention to comply. A police official stated, "Upon receiving the report, we immediately responded at the scene and took the necessary actions. We only provided guidance on compensation procedures for the property contamination and did not encourage personal reconciliation. We will conduct a thorough investigation." The police are analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other evidence to ascertain the full circumstances of the incident.
