Sehoon Oh Confirmed as People Power Party’s Seoul Mayoral Candidate...Set to Face Jeong Wonoh of the Democratic Party
Beating Park Sumin and Yoon Heesook, Oh Sehoon Seeks Fifth Term
Oh Se-hoon, the Mayor of Seoul, has been officially confirmed as the People Power Party's candidate for Seoul Mayor in the 9th nationwide local elections to be held on June 3, 2026.
On April 18, Park Deok-heum, Chairman of the People Power Party's Nomination Committee, announced at the party's headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, "As a result of the Seoul mayoral primary, Mayor Oh Se-hoon has been selected as the People Power Party candidate for Seoul Mayor." The nomination race for the People Power Party's Seoul mayoral candidate featured Mayor Oh, Assemblywoman Park Sumin, and former lawmaker Yoon Heesook as contenders.
The Seoul mayoral primary reflected the results of both the party electoral college vote, held from April 16 to 17, and a public opinion poll (conducted by two agencies, 1,000 people each), each weighted equally at a 5-to-5 ratio. Chairman Park explained, "The final result was determined by converting both the electoral college vote and the poll results into values based on the number of valid electoral college votes, summing them, converting the total to a 100% scale, and then applying candidate-specific additional or deduction points before confirming the outcome."
As a result, Mayor Oh will now seek a fifth term as Seoul Mayor. After serving as a member of the 16th National Assembly, he was first elected Seoul Mayor in the 2006 local elections and was re-elected in 2010. Following his resignation in 2011 over the free school lunch referendum and a decade-long political hiatus, he returned to win both the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election and the 2022 local elections, becoming the first-ever four-term mayor in history.
