Iran "Fully Opens Strait of Hormuz During Lebanon Ceasefire" (Update)
On April 17 (local time), Iran announced that it would fully open the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels during the Lebanon ceasefire period.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on X (formerly Twitter) that, "Reflecting the Lebanon ceasefire situation, we will allow the passage of all merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz for the remainder of the ceasefire period."
However, Minister Araghchi explained that, "(Merchant vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz) must follow the 'designated route' previously announced by Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization."
The passage route through the Strait of Hormuz referred to by Iran indicates the path beside Iran's Larak Island, rather than the conventional route near Musandam, Oman.
