Namdang Port Sea Trout in Hongseong Entices Food Enthusiasts This Spring
No Earthy Odor, Chewy Texture Draws Popularity
The famous “sea trout” of Namdang Port in Hongseong County, South Chungcheong Province, is enticing food enthusiasts this spring.
The trout from Namdang Port stands out for its rich flavor and nutritional value, having successfully overcome the limitations of freshwater trout through sea farming.
Cheonsu Bay is regarded as an optimal environment for trout farming due to its suitable salinity and abundance of nutrients.
The county expects sea trout production to reach 6 tons this year, with plans to serve the entire amount to visitors coming to Namdang Port.
A county official stated, “Although there will not be a sea trout festival this year, we will focus on ensuring a steady supply so that visitors can enjoy trout in the Namdang Port area.”
The trout raised here have none of the earthy odor characteristic of freshwater trout, and the influence of seawater gives their flesh a firmer and chewier texture.
