Hansung Cleantech Selected for Next-Generation Ultrapure Water National Project... Strengthening Semiconductor Infrastructure Competitiveness
Hansung Cleantech, a specialist in industrial water treatment and ultrapure water EPC, announced on April 16 that it has been selected for the government-led national project titled “Development of Next-Generation Ultrapure Water Production Process Design, Operation, and Long-Distance Supply Technology,” and will begin advancing related technologies.
This project aims to elevate the ultrapure water production and supply system, which is essential for advanced industries such as semiconductors and displays. It is a comprehensive technology development initiative encompassing the design and operation of ultrapure water production processes, as well as the construction of long-distance supply infrastructure. In particular, the development of an energy-saving, eco-friendly ultrapure water plant design program has been highlighted as a core task.
Ultrapure water serves as essential infrastructure for key processes such as semiconductor wafer cleaning, and demand is rapidly increasing with advances in microfabrication technologies and the widespread adoption of AI semiconductors. However, the production process is a representative example of an energy-intensive process, consuming significantly more energy than conventional water, and improving efficiency has become a critical issue for the global semiconductor industry.
Hansung Cleantech was chosen for this project based on its accumulated experience in establishing ultrapure water and water treatment facilities at major production sites, including Samsung Electronics’ Pyeongtaek Campus and SK hynix’s Yongin Semiconductor Cluster. Leveraging its field-oriented design and operational expertise, the company will be responsible for designing an energy-saving ultrapure water production plant.
The company stated, “As the semiconductor industry faces increasing electricity costs and stricter ESG regulations, the importance of design technologies that enhance energy efficiency is growing. Through this project, we aim to lay the foundation for dramatically improving the operational efficiency of ultrapure water facilities.”
With this participation, Hansung Cleantech plans to further sophisticate its ultrapure water facility design and operation technologies, and strengthen its competitiveness in the field of energy-saving water treatment solutions. Furthermore, the company intends to expand the application of its technologies beyond semiconductors to encompass the broader high-purity water industry, including secondary batteries, bio, and water electrolysis sectors.
