"Thank You, Samsung"... Elon Musk Announces Completion of 'AI5' Chip Design
AI5 Next-Generation AI Chip Design Completed, Announced on X
Manufactured by Samsung and TSMC, Applied to Autonomous Driving and Humanoids
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, announced that the design for the next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) chip, 'AI5', has been completed, and expressed his gratitude to Samsung Electronics and Taiwan's TSMC, which are responsible for producing the chip.
On April 15, Musk posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, saying, "Congratulations to the Tesla AI chip design team for achieving the tape-out for AI5," adding, "We are developing other exciting chips such as AI6 and Dojo 3."
'Tape-out' means that chip design has been finalized and that the design data has moved on to the manufacturing stage.
Musk thanked Samsung Electronics and TSMC, which produce the AI5 chip, stating, "Thank you for supporting chip production," and added, "This chip will become one of the most widely produced AI chips in history."
The AI5 is reportedly scheduled to be mass-produced at TSMC's facilities in Taiwan and Arizona, as well as at Samsung Electronics' Taylor plant in Texas. Full-scale mass production is expected to begin in 2027.
