Changwon Health Center: "Liquid-Type E-Cigarettes Also Banned in No-Smoking Areas"
All Tobacco Products Now Regulated in No-Smoking Areas
Following Amendment to the Tobacco Business Act
Changwon Health Center, located in Changwon Special City, Gyeongsangnam-do, announced that starting from April 24, all tobacco products, including synthetic nicotine liquid-type e-cigarettes, will be prohibited from use in designated no-smoking areas.
This change follows the amendment to the Tobacco Business Act, which expands the definition of tobacco from the previous "tobacco leaf" to include "tobacco or nicotine."
Until now, synthetic nicotine liquid-type e-cigarettes had not been regulated by law. However, with this amendment, they are now included among the products prohibited in no-smoking areas under the National Health Promotion Act.
As a result, all tobacco products—such as conventional cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and liquid-type e-cigarettes—are banned in no-smoking areas. Violators will be subject to a fine of up to 100,000 won.
To minimize public confusion and ensure the stable implementation of the policy, Changwon Health Center plans to intensively promote the new regulations through various channels—including the city website, electronic billboards, newsletters, card news, and distributing informational notices to relevant organizations—prior to the enforcement date.
