'Bold Move': Man in His 50s Gets Suspended Sentence After Pocketing 80 Million Won in Subsidies and Single-Parent Support
Applied for Benefits by Concealing Vehicle Ownership
Also Received Single-Parent Family Support
A man in his 50s who concealed vehicle ownership and received over 80 million won in basic living subsidies has been given a suspended prison sentence.
On April 14, Judge Kim Jeongjin of the Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 8 announced that Mr. A, who was tried on charges of violating the National Basic Living Security Act, was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years.
Mr. A actually owned and operated a car, but registered the vehicle under another person’s name and applied for basic living subsidies at the local district office. As a result, he received approximately 75 million won over five years starting from July 2019, before being caught.
Using the same method, Mr. A also fraudulently obtained about 7.5 million won in single-parent family support benefits.
