Iranian President: "End-of-Hostilities Talks Only Within Framework of U.S. and International Law"
Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, has set forth the principle that he will continue negotiations for an end to hostilities only within the framework of the United States and international law.
According to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency on April 13 (local time), President Pezeshkian stated in a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron that "Iran will only continue dialogue within the framework of international law."
President Pezeshkian said, "We have clearly stated the conditions for a ceasefire and are willing to comply with them."
Regarding the breakdown of negotiations for an end to hostilities with the United States, he attributed the failure to excessive demands from senior U.S. officials and a lack of political will, both of which ultimately blocked a final agreement.
Concerning U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to enforce a maritime blockade centered on the Strait of Hormuz starting at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, President Pezeshkian warned, "Any action that threatens the Strait of Hormuz will bring far-reaching repercussions around the world," adding, "Iran is prepared to respond to any scenario within the framework of its national interests."
