Two Asan City Hall Officials Sued Over Alleged Personal Information Leak
City Denies Allegations of Leaked Information in Youth Committee Election
Two public officials have been sued over allegations of leaking personal information in connection with the Asan City Youth Committee election in South Chungcheong Province.
According to comprehensive reporting by The Asia Business Daily on April 13, a resident of Asan, referred to as Mr. A, filed a police report against two officials at Asan City Hall, accusing them of abuse of authority and leaking personal information.
According to Mr. A, an official referred to as Mr. B, who works in the Secretariat at Asan City Hall, is suspected of calling a local business representative during the election process for the 9th Chairperson of the Asan City Youth Committee held on March 10, and urging them to support a specific candidate.
Mr. A also suspects that another unidentified public official leaked a list containing the names of employers, job titles, and contact information for 24 youth committee members participating in the election to an external party and provided it to the side of a specific candidate.
Mr. A claims that after the officials handed over voters' personal information to a chairperson candidate's camp, pressure was applied by urging certain candidates' support through the workplace supervisors of some committee members.
The Asan City Youth Committee is responsible for discussing youth policies in Asan City, collecting opinions and making proposals, and elects both a chairperson and a vice-chairperson.
A police official stated, "A complaint was filed against Asan City Hall officials and has been forwarded to the Asan Police Station."
