Top Grade in Teacher Training Competency... Silla University Earns A for Both College of Education and Graduate School of Education
Silla University has been recognized for having top-level competitiveness across the entire spectrum of teacher training.
On the 10th, Silla University announced that both its College of Education and Graduate School of Education received an A grade in the teacher training institution competency assessment organized by the Ministry of Education. Among universities in the Busan, Gyeongnam, and Gyeongbuk regions, Silla University is the only one to receive the highest grade in both programs.
This competency assessment was conducted to comprehensively review the educational conditions and operational performance of teacher training institutions, with the aim of cultivating prospective teachers who possess teaching expertise and capabilities for future education. The results of the assessment will be used as basic data for adjusting the scale of teacher training, taking into account the declining school-age population, teacher supply and demand conditions, and teacher recruitment exam competition rates, as well as for formulating future policies.
Silla University received stable evaluations in all programs subject to the assessment, including the College of Education, the teacher training program within the general undergraduate curriculum, and the Graduate School of Education. In particular, the fact that both the College of Education and the Graduate School of Education received A grades demonstrates the completeness of the overall teacher training system. As a result, the university is also expected to receive a commendation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education in the future.
This sixth-cycle assessment was linked to the "Development Plan for the Elementary and Secondary Teacher Training System" and focused on whether institutions were transitioning to a system for cultivating prospective teachers with future-oriented competencies such as AI and digital literacy, as well as on the specialized achievements of each institution. Curriculum operation, faculty competence, linkage between practicum and school sites, and educational conditions were comprehensively evaluated using both quantitative and qualitative indicators.
The College of Education has operated a learner-centered curriculum that balances the enhancement of major-related competencies and practical on-site skills, while the Graduate School of Education has consistently promoted practice-oriented research and specialized programs focused on future educational settings to enhance the professionalism of in-service teachers. These systematic curriculum operations and efforts to strengthen ties with the field are analyzed as the reasons for the high scores in this assessment.
Building on these results, Silla University plans to further enhance the quality of its teacher training. The university intends to proactively respond to the changing educational environment by strengthening AI- and digital-based teaching competencies and operating practice-centered curricula in close connection with school sites.
