Guro District Mobilizes AI and Drones for Spring Wildfire Surveillance
116-Day Operation of Countermeasure Headquarters
Three-Stage Wildfire Response System
On January 26, Guro District in Seoul (District Mayor Jang Inhong) announced that it has designated the 116-day period from January 20 to May 15 as the "2026 Spring Wildfire Prevention Countermeasure Period" and is actively implementing a comprehensive wildfire prevention strategy.
Guro District is continuously monitoring the forest areas within its jurisdiction using a drone-based AI wildfire surveillance system. Provided by Guro District.

Led by the Parks and Green Spaces Division, the district has organized six work teams to monitor wildfire situations in real time from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and until 6 p.m. on holidays.
Wildfire monitoring involves the use of an AI wildfire surveillance system that integrates drones and control PCs, as well as wildfire monitoring assistants and the Forest Disaster Response Team. Personnel are stationed at 19 monitoring points, including Maebongsan, Waryongsan, Cheonwangsan, and Gaeungsan. Notices prohibiting the carrying of flammable materials have been installed along major hiking trails, and on-site inspections are being conducted simultaneously.
The wildfire response system is divided into three stages according to the scale of the incident. The first response team, composed of Parks and Green Spaces Division staff, handles the initial response. If the fire spreads to more than 1 hectare, the Construction Policy Bureau and additional response personnel are deployed. In the event of a large-scale wildfire exceeding 5 hectares, a third response team consisting of more than 1,000 district and neighborhood staff members is mobilized.
The district is promoting wildfire safety messages through newsletters, its website, banners, and leaflets. Joint wildfire suppression drills have also been conducted with Guro Fire Station and other agencies. If a wildfire or suspicious situation is detected, residents are advised to immediately report it by calling 119.
