Exceeded Employment Quota, Increased Hiring of Severely Disabled... Busan Port Authority Named Outstanding Employer for Disability Employment
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sanggeun) has been selected as an Outstanding Employer for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities in 2025.
The Outstanding Employer for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities is a system that selects and recognizes exemplary employers in the employment of people with disabilities in accordance with Article 24 of the Act on the Employment Promotion and Vocational Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities and Article 22, Paragraph 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the same Act. The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities select the recipients each year.
Busan Port Authority was the first public institution to be selected as an Outstanding Employer for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities in 2022, and this year, it has maintained its certification for the second consecutive time. The certification period runs for three years from October 21, 2025.
In 2025, a total of 12 institutions and companies, including both public institutions and private enterprises, were selected as Outstanding Employers. Busan Port Authority received high marks for its operation of suitable jobs for persons with disabilities, preferential hiring measures and procedural improvements for hiring persons with disabilities, improvement of working conditions for employees with disabilities, and the creation of a disability-friendly workplace culture.
Busan Port Authority has designated the barista position at its in-house cafe as a suitable job for persons with disabilities and, through this initiative, employs a number of persons with disabilities equivalent to 1.5 times the legally mandated quota. In addition, by assigning support staff for employees with severe disabilities and creating a barrier-free work environment, the proportion of employees with severe disabilities among all employees with disabilities has reached 36%, which has drawn particular attention.

Song Sanggeun, President of BPA, stated, "It is the responsibility of public institutions to take the lead in employing socially disadvantaged groups, including persons with disabilities," and added, "As we have been recognized as a model institution, we will make even greater efforts to expand employment opportunities for persons with disabilities and improve the work environment."
