Korea Tourism Organization Accepting Applications for AI-Based Service Development 'Prompton'
The Korea Tourism Organization announced on May 13 that it will be accepting applications for participation in the '2025 Tourism Prompton' until June 4.
The Tourism Prompton is designed to develop innovative tourism services by utilizing the Korea Tourism Organization's open tourism data, 'TourAPI,' and generative artificial intelligence (AI). The word 'Prompton' is a combination of 'prompt,' a command message used to elicit responses from a system, and 'marathon.'
Participants will have their completed services evaluated in preliminary and final rounds after a development period of approximately three weeks. Anyone interested in creating services using generative AI technology can participate, from non-developers who want to try building services to developers who already have experience developing services with generative AI. Teams may consist of one to four members.
The total prize pool is 4 million won, awarded to four teams: 1 million won and a President's Award from the Korea Tourism Organization will be given to each winner in the following categories: Excellence in Service Planning (one team), Excellence in Service Implementation (one team), Excellence in Service Vision (one team), and Overall Service Excellence (one team).
Further details about the Tourism Prompton can be found in the announcement/contest section of the Korea Tourism Industry Portal, 'Tourraj.'

Moon Sunok, Head of the Digital Content Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, stated, "This competition will be a great opportunity for non-developers to easily try developing services using tourism data and large language models (LLMs) based on generative AI development tools. We look forward to seeing a variety of ideas realized as new tourism services."
