Jung Mong-gyu, president of the Korea Football Association, has passed the reappointment review by the Korea Sports Council's Sports Fairness Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Fairness Committee), allowing him to run for a fourth term.
According to the Korea Football Association on the 11th, President Jung received approval notification at the Fairness Committee's reappointment review held that day, qualifying him to run for a fourth term.
The Fairness Committee evaluated items such as advancement to international organization executive positions, financial contributions, and awards, and ultimately approved President Jung's candidacy for the election.
With President Jung passing the Fairness Committee review, the election for the 55th president of the Korea Football Association will be a three-way race among President Jung, former national football team coach Heo Jeong-moo, and Shin Moon-seon, an invited professor in the Department of Sports Record Analysis at Myongji University's Graduate School of Record Information Science.
President Jung, having passed the Fairness Committee review, is scheduled to share his reflections on the past term and plans for managing the association over the next four years with the press around the candidate registration period from the 25th to the 27th of this month.
This is the first time in 12 years since President Jung was first elected in 2013 that a primary election will be held for the Korea Football Association president election. The candidate registration period is from the 25th to the 27th. The election will be held on January 8 next year.
