Ruling Party Also Troubled... "Normal Presidential Duties Impossible"
Assemblyman Kim Sang-wook "Martial Law Contains Illegal Elements"
"I Ran to the National Assembly Ready to Face Death"
Regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law, Kim Sang-wook, a member of the People Power Party, stated, "A discussion about the president's impeachment is inevitable," adding, "I believe it is impossible for him to perform his presidential duties normally."
On the 4th, Kim appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and evaluated President Yoon's declaration of martial law as having many illegal elements.
In response to reports that the deployed martial law troops' role was to arrest Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, and Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly, Kim said, "I considered it a serious act of parliamentary paralysis," emphasizing, "Article 1 of the proclamation included unconstitutional content that political activities in the National Assembly would be suspended. Regardless of factional politics, this is unacceptable."
Regarding some legal experts' remarks that this constitutes an attempted rebellion, he said, "Further review is needed, but the procedures or reasons for declaring martial law are insufficient," raising his voice, "Putting all that aside, it was a serious threat to the foundation of democracy."
Kim shared his feelings at the time of the martial law declaration, saying, "I ran to the National Assembly prepared to face death." He said, "Upon suddenly hearing the news, I ran to the National Assembly immediately without party consensus," adding, "I thought that if we couldn't stop it in the National Assembly, the people might shed blood." He continued, "Martial law is an extraordinary situation, isn't it? I acted based on personal conviction and conscience rather than party consensus."

Kim expressed, "I feel ashamed to be a member of the ruling party," and said, "I also feel a great sense of guilt for not being able to prevent this. For the country to operate healthily, healthy conservatives and progressives must coexist and promote national development, but I worry that this incident might disrupt that balance."
