[Report] Starbucks and Donghaeng: "Please Put a Phone Number Tag on Our Dog's Neck"
Starbucks ESG Team and 'Donghaeng' Collaboration
Campaign to Encourage Adoption of Abandoned Animals
"If you thread the owner's phone number bead onto our child's leash, it is very useful because even if the leash is lost, you can quickly find them. It is the best design for preventing lost pets."

View original imageOn the 25th of last month, the pet-friendly store Starbucks 'Guri Galmae DT' hosted a heartwarming abandoned animal adoption campaign called 'Noldagashigae.'
'Noldagashigae' is an abandoned animal adoption promotion and awareness campaign jointly conducted by Starbucks' ESG team and the abandoned animal rescue, protection, and adoption organization 'A Happy World with Animals' (hereinafter referred to as Donghaeng). Since its launch in 2022, over 800 customers participated in the first half of this year alone, and a total of nine abandoned dogs found new families.
When the reporter visited, three abandoned dogs waiting for new families were happily wagging their tails and meeting visitors at the Guri Galmae DT store. They are all waiting for adoption to find new homes before the cold winter arrives.
There were 29 visitors on the day for adoption consultations, and among them, one dog found a perfect temporary guardian on the same day and was able to go to a warm new home.
Starbucks and Donghaeng stated that on days when the adoption consultation booth operates, at least five to a maximum of 30 adoption consultations take place.
However, receiving an adoption consultation does not mean that adoption is immediately finalized on-site. When a prospective adopter fills out an application, Donghaeng conducts a process to check the caregiving environment and supplies. This is a consideration to prevent abandoned animals, who have already experienced being discarded once, from being adopted into unprepared homes and abandoned again.

General customers can try the 'Make a Dog Bead Necklace' experience. Donghaeng officials recommended that participants include the owner's phone number on their dog's leash.
Choi Mi-geum, the representative of Donghaeng, said, "Through the Noldagashigae campaign, we hope that abandoned animals can find warm new homes and families who can give them lots of love before the cold winter comes," adding, "We will continue campaigns to improve awareness of abandoned animal adoption and to spread companion animal culture."
Starbucks will offer various programs where customers visiting with abandoned dogs and companion animals can enjoy themselves from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the second Friday of every month at The Bukhan River R store and on the fourth Friday at Guri Galmae DT store until next month.
