KARI and KASI Enter Final Stage of New Director Appointment (Update)

This year, with the launch of the Space Aviation Agency, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute and the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute have each selected three candidates for their director positions to lead the private-sector-driven 'New Space' era.
On the 2nd, the Space Aviation Agency held the KARI Director Recommendation Review Committee and announced on the 4th that it had recommended three candidates to the board of directors: Professor Lee Sang-cheol of the Department of Aerospace Mechanical Engineering at Korea Aerospace University, Professor Choi Ki-young of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Inha University, and Choi Hwan-seok, Director of the Launch Vehicle Research Center at KARI.
Earlier, on the 24th of last month, the KASI Director Recommendation Review Committee recommended three candidates to the board: Park Byung-gon, Head of the Giant Telescope Project Group at KASI, Park Jang-hyun, Senior Researcher at KASI, and Yuk In-su, Deputy Director of KASI.

For KARI, two external and one internal candidates were selected, while for KASI, all candidates were internal. In the scientific community, there are rumors that Professor Lee Sang-cheol of Korea Aerospace University is effectively designated as the director of KARI. Regarding this, the Space Aviation Agency stated, "The director will be decided through the personnel verification process."
