Kenko Aerospace Signs Contract with ST Engineering for 'WIG Ship' Order
Kenkoreaerospace announced on the 29th that it has signed a structural supply contract worth 20 billion KRW for a WIG (Wing In Ground effect Craft) with ST Engineering (Singapore Technologies Engineering).
The aircraft in question is a WIG craft that ST Engineering plans to commercialize in 2025. Kenkoreaerospace will manufacture and supply the fuselage structure of this aircraft. The company explained that there is a high possibility of additional structural supply contracts for this aircraft in the future. Since the revenue structure increases as the customer's sales volume grows, Kenkoreaerospace's performance upside is also expected going forward.
Kenkoreaerospace has been achieving consecutive order successes from ST Engineering. This order contract is the second new business following the B757 P2T (passenger aircraft to firefighting aircraft conversion) contract signed on the 5th. Since the WIG craft, which is similar in size to small and medium-sized aircraft, uses technical elements similar to those used in UAM (Urban Air Mobility) aircraft production, it is expected to create a synergy effect with Kenkoreaerospace's steadily growing UAM foundry business since last year.
The WIG craft, also known as the "flying ship," is characterized by flying using the air cushion phenomenon where air is trapped between the body and wings close to the sea surface. It can travel faster than high-speed ships and is more fuel-efficient than airplanes, making it practical.
